>Where are the Bride and Groom

by Eric Stoner on Aug.23, 2010, under Blogs

People always ask me for unique wedding situations. I had an interesting one this past weekend.

If you attended Penn State in your undergrad or grad school, you probably remember “Move in Weekend”
Parents and students truck back to Penn State with all types of necessities. This is also a good weekend for any locals to stay far away from Walmart or any other local retail store.

Another place to avoid, unless you are dropping your child off to East Halls for their first semester, is campus.

Picture this. Brian and Emily get married at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast just outside State College. Guests are about 25 minutes late which pushes the ceremony back about a half hour because they are stuck in heavy traffic on RT. 322.

This is not that big a deal. Ceremonies on average are about 10 to 15 minutes late.

The ceremony ends around 6:15pm and the photographer informs us they are going to Penn State to get their pictures taken.

Flash Forward to 7:30pm. Most of the younger guests at this point are feasting on a liquid diet. We all know It is important to stay hydrated, especially for an outdoor reception. The mother of the bride is starting to panic, because she knows the bridal party should have been back by now, and there are 150 hungry guests to feed.

We talked with both moms and they agree, it is time to eat. So we calmly get the guests to their seats, say grace, and tables are released. During this time, we also change the music into a more upbeat mood. This keeps the guests in a celebratory mindset and lets guests who aren’t in the buffet line yet possibly work off some alcohol on the dance floor.

It is now 8:45pm and most guests have been through the buffet. Our bride and groom are introduced to many cheers and the party goes into the next level. We quickly move through their formal dances and everybody has a blast.

It may not seem like that crazy of a story, but imagine if we just sat back and waited until 8:45 to start dinner. Because of noise issues they could only use the outdoor space until 11pm.

>The Mike Holmes of DJ’s

by Eric Stoner on May.24, 2010, under Blogs

I am a sucker for home improvement shows.  One of my favorites is on HGTV called “Holmes on Homes”  The star of the show, Mike Holmes, is brought in to fix the mess another contractor did on a job.  Not only does Mike come in and fix it, but he goes above and beyond to make the home owner so happy they forget about how bad the original job was.

Last weekend I got to be the Mike Holmes of DJ’s.  I received a frantic call from a bride who found out 6 days before her wedding that their DJ was in jail.  She received my name from another vendor to call to see if we could help.   I was able to come out and give them the best wedding ceremony and reception I could.

Generations Dance State College Wedding

Here is a quote from the bride  “You really came through for my husband and I in a major way.  We cannot give you enough thanks for playing our wedding in a pinch!”

I am glad everybody left with smiles, rather than tears.

>Worst DJ Ever

by Eric Stoner on May.14, 2010, under Weddings

This is embarrassing. But we hear stories all the time about DJ’s who ruin weddings or do inappropriate things.  You can tell this guy has been drinking too.

Don’t make this mistake at your wedding.

>We keep em Moving!

by Eric Stoner on May.10, 2010, under Blogs

Ever seen a dance floor move during a wedding

We always tell our prospective couples, “We keep em moving!”  Well, we never though it would be the dance floor that was moving.  This dancefloor started where the carpet line was blue and moved about a whole 12 inches throughout the night.  Of course I don’t have a picture of the floor before it moved.  Who takes a picture of the floor, right?   This is something in my 17 years that I have never seen.  The guests had so much fun at Brock and Tessa Antolick’s wedding this weekend.

It was a moving reception!!

Happy May Everybody

>Photo Booth a New Trend

by Eric Stoner on Apr.20, 2010, under Blogs

Are Photo Booths the next big thing at weddings?  Alyssa Murray, owner of Wink Photo Booths, says yes.  Say goodbye to the disposable camera for good.    A photo booth is a great way to capture the fun and excitement your guests are having at the wedding that will live on, well after the party.  I personally have never seen a photo booth at a wedding until late 2009.  The 2010 wedding season is upon us and  I have seen it at 4 weddings already?  Of course the photo booth doesn’t replace a professional photographer because it can’t follow guests around to take the action shots.  It is, however, a great way to get your guests excited and to share in a fun moment or two from your wedding day.
